CHN - Ailun GUO. Day 5 of the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Hamburg, Germany. 06/07/2010, preliminary round.
HAMBURG (FIBA U17 World Championship) – China incredibly fought back from a 19-point deficit to beat Argentina 76-64 and improve their mark to 2-2 in Group A.
The loss will be a tough one for Argentina to swallow as they were up 38-29 at halftime and 52-33 midway through the third quarter after hitting four three-pointers in a row with Tomas Zanzoreta accounting for three of them on his way to 26 points.
China changed up their defense, deciding to use a zone and that proved to be a smart move as they cut the deficit to 56-48 by the end of the period.
Guard Ailun Guo took over the scoring load and had his team within three, 63-60, with six minutes left to play.
By then, Argentina’s offense was disintegrating as they could not find any open looks and instead had to take tough contested ones which, predictably enough, didn’t fall for them.
Guo finished with 26 points – 10 of them coming in the first quarter – and was not far off a triple-double with nine rebounds and seven assists.
