Several great Basketball Events in Hamburg this summer


The 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men is the first competition of this age group in history. All Basketball experts agree that the World Championship held in Hamburg, Germany promises to be very exciting and on a high level. But not only the games itself assure that the premiere of this youth Basketball event will be unique and memorable: The German Basketball Federation and their partners have planned several exciting side events to entertain the fans and visitors from all over the world.

For younger Basketball fans we offer Basketball Camps to combine the joy of playing Basketball yourself with the excitement of watching the young pros perform. For coaches, we will host Coach Clinics in which international coaches will talk about their experiences and challenges, as well as for referees who will also have the chance to participate in an international Referee Clinic.

Last but not least we will have a special area with fun activities for all guests of the 2010 FIBA U17 WCFM.

Event: ING DiBa Junior Cup
Date: June 18th- June 20th, 2010
Location: Sporthalle Hamburg
Information: The ING DiBa Junior Cup is an international tournament played by four teams. This year, Serbia’s U17, Bosnia’s U18 and Sweden’s U18 compete against Germany’s U17 Team that won the title last year.
Costs: Tickets costs from 2 Euro (single ticket for kids) to 10 Euros (complete pass for adults) and can be ordered via email


Event: German University Championship
Date: June 26th- June 27th, 2010
Location: Sporthalle Hamburg
Information: The German University Championship is the biggest Basketball competition among universities and will be held in the official venue as well. The best university teams will be in town to play for the university crown.
Costs: There is no entrance fee at this event.


Event: Open Coach Clinic
Date: July 2nd – July 3rd, 2010
Location: Sporthalle Wandsbek
Information: This coach clinic is open to all referees and has no age or league restriction. Please contact Peter Radegast for further information on the open Coach Clinic.
Costs: The participation fee is 79 Euro including snacks, material and tickets.


Event: Court Side Area
Date: July 2nd- July 11th, 2010
Location: Outside of the Sporthalle Hamburg
Information: The court side area is located directly between the competition and the practice gym. It is the location to go during the games of the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship. Plenty attractions are waiting for the crowd to be discovered.
Costs: The court side area is free of charge.


Event: Sports Mile
Date: July 2nd- July 11th, 2010
Location: Outside of the Sporthalle Hamburg
Information: The Sports Mile is provided by our partner, the Sports Federation of Hamburg and it offers the visitors plenty option to try new sports. With the sports mile, the visitors have the perfect balance between the games and sports activities that they can try themselves. Costs: The sports mile is free of charge.


Event: Mini Festival

Date: July 2nd- July 4th, 2010
Location: Sporthalle of the Margarete Rothe Gymnasium, Langenfort 5
Information: The Mini Festival is a Basketball festival for young kinds age 12 and younger. The main goal is to create an open atmosphere is created that helps to establish new friendships. In addition to that, the 100 participating kids have the opportunity to watch the games of the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men.
Costs: The participation fee is 39 Euros per kid including accommodation, meals, tickets to the U17 WCFM games and all transfers. Contact hamburg2010@basketball-bund.de to register.


Event: DBB Camp
Date: July 4th- July 8th, 2010
Location: Wandsbeker Sporthalle
Information: The Camp is designed for teenagers from 13 to 15 who love Basketball and want to gather to practice together. Besides that, the can also enjoy the great games at the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship and they will exclusively meet the stars of German Basketball in their camp. Costs: The participation fee is 350 Euro per participant. Contact hamburg2010@basketball-bund.de to register.


Event: Referee Clinic 1 – Open Referee Clinic
Date: July 2nd- July 4th, 2010
Location: Policy Gym next to the Sporthalle Hamburg
Information: This referee clinic is designed for all referees and has no age or league restriction.
Costs: The participation fee is to be announced. Contact hamburg2010@basketball-bund.de to register.


Event: Referee Clinic 2 – International Referee Clinic
Date: July 9th- July 11th, 2010
Location: Policy Gym next to the Sporthalle Hamburg
Information: This referee clinic is for international young top referees that will be send by their national federations.
Costs: The participation fee is to be announced. Contact hamburg2010@basketball-bund.de to register.
