City of Hamburg

About 1.7 million inhabitants live in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe: Hamburg. Huge and lovely designed green areas, broad water sections, a maritime atmosphere, great options for free time activities and culture, a vibrating nightlife - and everything in walking distance. Hamburg, the second biggest town in Germany, is one of the most dynamic economic centers and the leading trade location to China and Eastern Europe.

More than 100 million visitors swarm the metropolis with the Hanse and Elbe rivers every year. Besides the harbor area there are multiple opportunities to explore the variety of maritime impressions: the ‘Europe Areaway’ emblazoned with a glass roof offers all visitors a shopping paradise equipped with an amazing view on the Jungfernstieg, the most elegant promenade for the people of Hamburg. The four musical theaters are also unique in Europe. The completion of the impressive concert halls at the Elbe River is scheduled for 2010.

Hamburg is a growing city. The HarborCity, Europe’s biggest inner-city development project, enlarges the city center by more than forty percent. Being at the heart of the city, closely to the harbor, the new town district will be a working and living home for thousands of people.

One thing is certain: Hamburg is one of the greatest cities in Europe, lively and exciting, green and colorful, with a special richness of people, initiative and ideas.

Hamburg means Sport

The people of the city of Hamburg are enthusiastic sport fans. They honor their sport heroes and follow every sports event very intensively no matter whether it is in the stadium, on the center court, or in the gyms.

Hamburg offers tons of top-sports events, in soccer, triathlon, bicycling, tennis, judo – just to name a few. Concerning basketball, Hamburg is anything but a dark horse: Dirk Nowitzki and his team played there multiple times, and the German Basketball League hosts his TOP 4 cup tournament in the metropolis at the Hanseatic city every year.

With a capacity for 5,000 fans, the “Sporthalle Hamburg” is the ideal venue for the FIBA U17 World Championship. Located in the downtown area, it is THE location for sport and live events in Hamburg. Offering spacious and flexible interior areas and multiple side rooms, the best young talents from all over the world will have ideal conditions.
